Collaborative, Student-built Website

Who:Professor Anne Sara Rubin; HIST 402
What: Teams LX

Objective: Build a collaborative website using the UMBC library's collection of Lewis Hine photographs of US child labor in the early 20th century.

Process: Each student was assigned 5 images to research. Students wrote essays on their findings and organized the photos and essays by industry and state. Students then posted their work online using Teams LX (wiki) to build pages and create hyper-links. Grading for the collaboratively built website was based on the quality of content created.

Result: According to professor Rubin, "it was easy to standardize the look of each page and then link them together and it didn't matter what type of computer the students used." At the end of the course, the wiki was exported from Blackboard and made accessible on the web, here.
